We also provide advice on the effectiveness of your existing Grease Management Systems.

Fats, oils and greases have a major impact on the environment. When put down sinks or even as a byproduct from washing utensils they can  block drain pipes and sewers and cause pollution in streams and rivers. These types of problem are becoming more acute and many water authorities and Property Managers are looking for solutions which address the problem at source, preventing costly remedial actions and repairs being required.

All catering outlets now need to be aware of the correct disposal requirements and the dangers of disposing of oils and fats down sinks and drains. Failure to do so can potentially cause damaging and costly drainage problems, which may affect their reputation or even potentially restrict their operations.

Grease Traps Installed

There are two main types of grease trap options available for commercial kitchens. These are:

  • Below ground grease trap installations: these chambers allow fat and grease to be separated from the waste water that passes through your drainage system daily.

  • Above ground stainless steel or plastic grease trap installations: these are similar to the below ground systems, but these need emptying periodically.

Dosing Systems Provided

In certain environments, the effectiveness of grease traps and Grease Recovery Units can be increased if used in conjunction with automatic dosing units.

Our dosing systems work with a grease-digesting fluid which comes in the form of a powerful concentrated enzyme. This helps in the biological breakdown of fat, oil and grease. This boosts the performance of traps and interceptors over time as well as reducing future maintenance costs.

Grease and Oil Risk Assessments

Although the effects of fats, oils and greases are more or less unavoidable, action can be taken to minimise their impacts and associated costs. Even small reductions in the amount of fats and oils used can result in a significant amount savings, reflecting the reduced cost of buying in and disposing of fats and oils (and reduced cleaning costs). All commercial hot food kitchens are likely to use sufficient quantities of fats and oils in their cooking to make it worthwhile to take precautions to prevent the discharge of fats, oils and greases to the drains. The cost of measures to prevent fats, oils and greases from entering the drainage system can be offset against the potentially high costs of blockages and legal action.

Landmark Specialist Solutions can carry out a full Risk Assessment of your facility and identify any inherent areas of risk to you as a company.
